The newest shoegaze wonders to join Somewherecold Records are the Dallas based band Vollam. Mirror is their dreamy, ethereal debut album, and it’s impressive to say the least.

Vollam is made up of three musicians from Dallas, TX, including other featured artists from Michigan and Istanbul, Turkey. The album Mirror is mostly centered around the imagery from the film Mirror by Andrei Tarkovsky.

During the 2020 quarantine, three former band mates discovered they were all working on new material with similar taste. All feeling the motivation and excitement to work together again, they worked on the material for the following year. Rooted in the DIY ethic and inspired by the great film producers and musicians of decades prior, Mirror is the result of Vollam finding balance between pop and ambient, energy and tenderness, excitement and introspection. Mirror is a thematically homogenous work while staying sonically diverse to the likes of each member of Vollam. Maturing songwriting, increased access to sonic tools, and outside collaboration all contribute to the emotion and themes of Mirror.
