PRE-ORDER David Newlyn: Tapes and Ghosts On Limited Clear Turquoise Vinyl Out April 30
Hello Somewherecold Supporters. Yes, this is the final pre-order of the week but it is one that is worth waiting for and worth pre-ordering on Bandcamp day tomorrow. David Newlyn is back with another Somewherecold Release but this time it will be out on Clear Turquoise Vinyl. The gorgeous packaging along with the beautiful vinyl really compliment Tapes and Ghosts‘ monumentally beautiful compositions.
For those of you unfamiliar with David Newlyn‘s work, he has become an ambient/electronic artist with a very loyal following. Working and recording in the UK, Newlyn also curates and runs the fabulous label Cathedral Transmissions. As curator of music myself, his label has been a model for much of how I view the ambient side of Somewherecold Records. As always, Newlyn‘s work here is entrancing, deceptively complex in the midst of its seeming simplicity, and masterful as always. Tapes and Ghosts is Newlyn at his best, with floating notes and ephemeral atmospheres.
The pre-orders will come with the opening track, “Surfacing”, but it will surely make you anxious to listen to much more. A tease as you will to this epic sonic journey, the warmth and surface of a vinyl will bring new layers to light and lend even more warmth to these amazing compositions.
There are only 200 clear turquoise vinyl being pressed for this release. If my past experience with Newlyn‘s releases is any indication, this one will fly out of the stock room. I hope you will all give it a listen and pre-order it on bandcamp day, giving it an extra 10% boost in support.
