Somewherecold is proud to present an exclusive stream of the new Snow in Mexico EP Breath out on Saturday, April 16th on Saint Marie Records. The EP will be available as a digital-only release and is available for pre-order at the Saint Marie Records Bandcamp. Snow in Mexico is the duo Massimiliano Cruciani and Andrea Novelli who hail from Rome, Italy. The duo began collaborating in 2008 and Breath is their fourth release.

The EP begins with “Aurora” as a gorgeous drone fills the speakers and static moves wistfully, panning right and left. Spacey synths play pensive notes over the tide of the soundscape and then acoustic guitar begins to be picked. Percussion eventually joins the slow moving tide to add to the swell. The track hits a crescendo and eventually fades, stripping layers and leaving a droney thread bare. “Thirteen” begins with pulsing synths and dancing, bright tones. The drums beat in time while a brilliant vocal comes into the mix. Awash in reverb, the vocals are dreamy and mesmerizing. The track is a brilliant throwback to all things 80’s and the beautiful things artists did with synths during that period.

The titular track, “Breath”, is bright, swirling with thumping bass and accented high-hat. An almost Pet Shop Boysesque feel permeates “Breath”, with its almost effortless feeling vocals and slow, dance-oriented beat. “Nibiru” is otherworldly, with breathy voices playing amid sci-fi synths. It’s an instrumental track that plays with layers as it builds to its climax, conveying a sense of mystery as well a feeling of vastness.

Snow in Mexico has produced an amazing EP that deserves your attention. They move from brilliant spacey synths to reverb drenched vocals to produce what ought to be considered classic electronica. Give the EP a listen and then pre-order it today!
