Conclusions is the newest release from autodealer at Somewherecold Records. An artist that values integrity in shaping his work, Matthew Richter has gone under too many radars. His current work is extremely personal and engaging. Here is a written piece by Richter which demonstrates the deeply personal meaning of this album for him:

I’m not going to lie, I’ve been dreading writing this blurb. This album was actually shelved for a while until I listened to it again almost two years after its creation and realized that it was better than I originally gave it credit for. The short version is this: Conclusions was written, almost entirely, over the course of 10 days while my father, who I had been caretaking for 5 years by that point, was sent home to hospice to die.

The description sounds more morbid than the circumstances, surprisingly enough. He had just turned 93, had been in and out of the hospital essentially non stop for almost 2 years, and was simply ready to come home for good. He was discharged the day before his birthday, and was gone 10 days later. Blessedly brief, I suppose.

This album was initially a kind of journal of my experience helping him for the last days of his life. Months and years later, it’s evolved, for me at least, to function as a meditation on loss in general, expected or otherwise. The album has certainly taken on a different meaning to me in the context of recent events. And that’s why, I think,

I really came around on this album. Even though I wrote the damn thing it has come to mean a variety of things apart from their original intent. This album wasn’t meant to be universal. And yet somehow I’m finding it comforting to apply it to finality in general. Anyway. Thank you for listening.
