Here is another EP which has also made my summer 2018 playlist. Burning House’s sound in this EP can be summed up as a well-crafted conglomerate of early post-rock sounds in the likes of The Verve, My Bloody Valentine, Chapterhouse, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and a dash of classic rock (I’m talking about that sweet Hendrix-esque opening in “I Am a Tree”). There elements of pop, too, the kind that make you want to jump around while you headbang at a grunge show. Yeah, these kids are onto something.

The guitars are loud, and looming, with a level of distortion that could have very well been fine tuned by someone listening to every album ever produced between, say, 1987 and 1996. The feedback is piercing, but not in an unbearable way. It sounds like a pure rage, like the ones you can see in your mind: a guitarist really getting into the jam, headphones on, balancing the desire to rock out and the discipline to rock steady while recording.

There is a solid bassline and killer drums. The vocals are definitely shoegaze-inspired, giving way to the guitars. Every track on this EP blended into the next, making the entire album play so seamlessly. It is party music as much as it is working music, as a result.

Favorite track: Vague. It brings about all of the nostalgia the band intended to invoke. If you enjoy current post-rock/shoegaze/noise bands like Aurora L’Orealis, Lazy Legs, JAGUWAR, Cheetahs, etc., you are in the right place. Just press play.
